Gold Is Better Than Silver- Thoughts on the Black Stars Vol II

Gold Is Better Than Silver –
Thoughts on Ghana’s World Cup Experience

Thank God for His mercies! Thank God for the Black Stars!!!

This is further to my piece yesterday captioned “Silver Is Not Gold – An Opinion on the Black Stars”. Ghana has just beaten the mighty USA by 2-1. Mighty, nuclear-armed, sole superpower of the world, USA, has been humbled at a game where the rules were fair and everyone had an equal chance at winning. Ghana won!!!

People have been wondering about the amount of money that is being given to the team. But what this team is delivering to mother Ghana can never be quantified in money terms. Foreigners I had met in seminars and conferences all over the world, some of whom I had lost contact with, have sent emails back to me just because the Black Stars of Ghana is writing the story of the 2006 World Cup! It is no longer about Brazil, Argentina or Germany. The 2006 World Cup is about little Ghana, discovering that we will not settle for the silver that is always offered to us and now competing for the ultimate prize. The Black Stars are shocking all Ghanaians into awareness about their inherent worth. Their story and grit, epitomized by Razak Pimpong limbering on in the wake of an obvious injury and bringing glory to Mother Ghana, is one that all Ghanaians, irrespective of colour, shape or form should tap into. We are beginning to believe! And it can only do wonders for us as a nation! We just have to prepare to reap the economic benefits of the sweet story being written in far-away Germany!!!

We salute you, Black Stars!! Thanks for believing that Gold is Better Than Silver!!!
